About Rabat, Morocco

Rabat, Morocco’s capital, rests along the shores of the Bouregreg River and the Atlantic Ocean. It is one of the country’s four imperial cities. Rabat is known for landmarks that speak to its Islamic and French-colonial heritage. It’s a city full of historic architecture and welcoming people, with plenty to see and do. Over the centuries Rabat has been influenced by the Phoenicians, Romans, Almohads and Merenids. A student living in Rabat you will find plenty of monuments reflecting these past cultures. The Berber-era royal fort is surrounded by formal French-designed gardens and overlooks the ocean. The city’s iconic Hassan Tower, a 12th-century minaret, soars above the ruins of a mosque.
