Lyon, France

Lyon, France is the capital of gastronomy and the best place to discover all the secrets of French cuisine. This five week Tourism and Gastronomy program includes: courses, conferences, visits and cultural activities that will teach you everything you ever wanted to know about French cuisine. Lyon is France’s second largest city and an important European crossroad. Its remarkable location at the heart of Europe links Lyon, on an average of 1 ½ hours to all of the major European metropolises including Barcelona, Milan, Turin, and Geneva thanks to an equally well performing network of communication by air, road, or rail. The city is the capital of French gastronomy and offers a choice between the popular charm of its famous “bouchon” bistros, the refined elegance of its two-and-three-star gourmet restaurants, and the warm lively atmosphere of its open-air markets. The 2000 year old historic center is now recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site; artistic creativity thrives and cultural activities abound all year round. Lyon truly offers a wide palette of cultural events of international standing. The effectiveness of your ability to articulate your experience abroad in a resume and interview will have a profound impact on your employability. GlobalEd provides cultural training to prepare you for your immersion experience and provides you with a framework for understanding and analyzing different cultural values. You will also receive Myers-Briggs training to gain an in-depth understanding of your own personality and be able to explain why people act and think the way they do. Our ongoing coaching throughout your session abroad will help you contextualize your experiences in a positive and productive manner. And finally, you will learn how to put all of this into a resume and use it to dominate your interviews for the first years of your career.

Students will live with a local family and receive a partial meal plan (2 meals per day), normally breakfast and dinner. Living with a local family is a wonderful opportunity to improve your language skills and to expose oneself to local foods and customs. Most families have received international students in the past and enjoy the daily interaction. You will be placed in a single or double room and have the option to request a roommate preference if traveling with a friend. The program includes two meals a day, a weekly laundry service and normal utility usage.
