Health and Safety: Why Filling Out Travel Forms is Crucial

When studying abroad, safety should always be a top priority. While you’re free to explore and enjoy your time in a new country, we ask students to fill out travel forms if they plan on traveling outside of the city. This is not to micromanage or treat you like you’re not capable adults—quite the opposite! It’s about ensuring that we have a way to quickly check on your safety in case of an emergency, whether it’s a global situation or something local to the area you’re visiting.

Why Do We Require These Forms?

Our travel forms help us stay informed about where you are and what you’re doing, so that in the unlikely event of an emergency, we can ensure you’re safe and out of harm’s way. If a natural disaster, political unrest, or other emergency occurs in a region, having this information allows us to act quickly and appropriately.

While we trust that you will make responsible choices and take all necessary precautions when traveling, these forms are an extra layer of support for you, ensuring that we can provide assistance or check in with you if needed. It’s all about maintaining your safety and peace of mind during your time abroad.

    How the Process Works

If you plan on leaving the city, all we ask is that you fill out a simple travel form with your destination, contact information, your travel dates, and the names of other program participants you’re traveling with. Only one person in your group needs to submit the form. Once submitted, we’ll have a record of your travel plans and can keep it on file. This way, we can quickly check your whereabouts and ensure you’re not in a potential danger zone in the event of an emergency

    Your Safety Comes First

This system is just another way we support your journey abroad. We understand the importance of independence and exploration, but safety remains our top priority. Filling out travel forms is an easy, quick step that helps us help you if an unexpected situation arises. It’s not about restrictions—it’s about peace of mind and having the support you need, no matter where you go.

Seville is a culinary gem where you can explore a variety of flavors, from traditional Spanish tapas to international delicacies. Whether you’re looking for a casual bite or a unique dining experience, these are some of my favorite spots in the city.

    1. Restaurante Al Wadi

For a change of pace, Restaurante Al Wadi brings the rich flavors of Middle Eastern and Moroccan cuisine to Seville. Their grilled meats, couscous, and creamy hummus make it a perfect spot for those craving something different. The cozy setting adds to the charm, making it a must-try for adventurous eaters.

    2. Carayaca Bar

Craving Venezuelan food? Carayaca Bar is where you’ll find the best Cachapa Pelúa—a sweet corn pancake filled with cheese and shredded beef. If you’re in the mood for a blend of flavors, try their Cachapa Andaluza, which mixes Venezuelan and Spanish ingredients in a deliciously unique way.

    3. Las Columnas

For a more traditional taste of Spain, Las Columnas is the perfect place to enjoy classic Andalusian tapas. Don’t miss their Espinacas con Queso—spinach with cheese—a simple, flavorful dish that captures the essence of Andalusian comfort food.

    4. 100 Montaditos

Looking for a casual and budget-friendly option? 100 Montaditos offers a wide selection of montaditos, small sandwiches packed with a variety of fillings. It’s a popular spot with locals and tourists alike, especially on Wednesdays and Sundays when most of the menu is only 1 euro! And be sure to try their Gouda cheese balls with marmalade—a perfect mix of savory and sweet.

    5. Mito Ice Cream

For dessert, Mito Ice Cream serves up true Italian gelato, just like you’d find in Italy. With its rich, creamy texture and vibrant flavors stored in traditional metal bins, it’s the perfect place to cool off and indulge. Whether you’re after classic flavors or something a little more adventurous, Mito never disappoints.

From the rich, savory flavors of Moroccan and Venezuelan dishes to the delightful simplicity of Spanish tapas and the indulgence of authentic Italian gelato, Seville offers a delicious range of experiences for food lovers. These spots are just a few of the city’s culinary gems that will have you coming back for more.

In today’s fast-paced world, self-care has become a vital part of maintaining mental and emotional well-being. But what if self-care wasn’t just bubble baths and journaling? What if it was about stepping out of your comfort zone and into a transformative experience that redefines who you are? Studying abroad is more than an academic opportunity—it’s an act of self-discovery and one of the most powerful forms of self-care you’ll ever undertake. Here’s why:

    1. You’ll Discover Who You Are

There’s nothing like navigating a new country to help you learn about yourself. When you’re far from home, you’re faced with decisions, challenges, and opportunities that push you to grow. From figuring out how to use public transport in a foreign city to learning a new language, every step is a chance to understand your strengths and uncover your passions.

Self-Care Bonus: Gaining independence builds confidence and a deeper connection with yourself.

    2. It’s a Break From Routine

Life can feel monotonous when you’re stuck in the same routines. Studying abroad offers a complete reset. New surroundings, people, and experiences disrupt the ordinary and inspire creativity, curiosity, and excitement. It’s the ultimate way to shake things up and breathe life into your daily rhythm.

Self-Care Bonus: A change of scenery can rejuvenate your mind and provide clarity on what you truly value.

    3. You’ll Build Resilience

Let’s face it—being in a new country isn’t always easy. From navigating cultural differences to handling homesickness, studying abroad challenges you in ways that foster resilience. These experiences don’t just help you adapt; they teach you to thrive in the face of adversity.

Self-Care Bonus: Overcoming challenges reminds you how strong you are, which boosts your mental health and inner peace.

    4. You’ll Connect with People Who Inspire You

Whether it’s forming friendships with classmates, bonding with a host family, or meeting locals at a café, studying abroad opens doors to meaningful relationships. These connections remind you that you’re part of a global community and that kindness, laughter, and understanding transcend borders.

Self-Care Bonus: Building strong social connections is a proven way to support mental and emotional well-being.

    5. It’s a Chance to Prioritize Joy

Studying abroad lets you focus on experiences that bring you happiness—exploring new cities, tasting incredible foods, learning a new skill, or simply wandering through a beautiful park. Every day holds the potential for discovery and joy.

Self-Care Bonus: Experiencing joy in the moment teaches you to slow down and appreciate life’s beauty, a vital part of self-care.

“To travel is to take a journey into yourself.”

    – Danny Kaye

    Self-Care That Lasts a Lifetime

Studying abroad is more than an adventure; it’s an investment in yourself. It’s about stepping outside your comfort zone, embracing growth, and finding joy in the unknown. The skills, memories, and connections you gain will stay with you long after the program ends, helping you care for yourself in ways you never imagined.

So go ahead—book that flight, step into the unknown, and discover the best version of yourself.

Packing Hacks for Study Abroad: Travel Light, Dress Local

    • By Marina

Packing for a study abroad experience is an art—balancing style, practicality, and the thrill of immersing yourself in a new culture. Wherever your adventure takes you, one of the best ways to feel at home is by dressing like the locals. The secret? Pack light, leave space, and embrace the opportunity to build your wardrobe once you arrive. Here’s how to get it right!

    1. Research the Local Style Before You Go

Every destination has its own fashion sense. Whether it’s the laid-back vibes of a beachside town, the sleek city style of a bustling metropolis, or the bold prints of a tropical culture, understanding how locals dress helps you pack smarter. Focus on a foundation wardrobe that’s versatile enough to get you started, leaving room for authentic, local pieces.

Pro Tip: A quick scroll through social media or travel blogs can offer a glimpse into the trends and staples popular in your destination.

The less you carry, the more room you have for the memories

    and connections that truly matter.

    2. Pack for Versatility, Not Volume

Think quality over quantity when it comes to your wardrobe. Pack neutral basics—like jeans, simple tops, and a versatile jacket—that you can mix and match. These essentials will hold you over while you discover and adopt the local style.

Essential Items: Comfortable walking shoes, a lightweight jacket for layering, neutral tops that pair with everything.

    3. Shop Locally to Blend In

The best way to truly immerse yourself in a new culture is to embrace its fashion. From bustling markets to charming boutiques, shopping locally lets you dress like the locals while supporting small businesses. Plus, you’ll bring home unique pieces that carry memories of your experience.

Bonus: Shopping abroad is often more affordable than overpacking. Save space and pick up stylish pieces as you explore!

    4. Plan for the Weather Without Overpacking

Weather can vary drastically depending on your destination, but overpacking bulky clothing isn’t the answer. Opt for layers instead—like a cardigan or scarf—that can adapt to different climates. If you find you need heavier clothing, buying a coat or sweater locally can be both practical and memorable.

    5. Leave Room for Souvenirs

Trust us—you’ll want to bring home more than just memories. Whether it’s clothing, accessories, or cultural artifacts, give yourself the space to bring back special finds. Pack light at the start of your journey to make room for these treasures.

    6. Master the Art of Minimalism

Studying abroad often means traveling to other cities or countries during your program. A lighter suitcase makes moving around easier. Stick to a packing list of essentials and leave “just in case” items at home.

    7. Accessories Are Your Best Friend

Scarves, hats, jewelry, and bags take up minimal space but can make a big impact on your look. They’re also a fantastic way to experiment with local styles without breaking the bank.

    8. Keep It Comfortable and Practical

From cobblestone streets to unpredictable public transportation, your study abroad adventure will require some practical planning. Comfortable shoes and a sturdy, hands-free bag are essentials no matter where you’re headed.

    9. Make Packing Part of the Experience

Think of packing light as the first step in your cultural immersion. By leaving room to grow your wardrobe and adapt to your new home, you’ll open yourself up to new styles, traditions, and ways of life.

    10. Focus on Experiences, Not Things

Packing light allows you to focus less on your belongings and more on the experience. As you adapt to your destination’s culture, you’ll find that what you brought isn’t as important as what you gain while living there.

Packing smart isn’t just about saving space—it’s about embracing the opportunity to immerse yourself fully in your new environment. So, grab the essentials, leave the rest, and get ready to dress, live, and explore like a local!
